If you're used to an in-person exam, virtual rheumatology visits might bring up a lot of questions. Here's our guide to how it works, so you can trust you will receive the same level of care or better.
Get the guideFirst, your integrative rheumatologist listens your in-depth health story - our first visits are 60 minutes. We know how you need time to tell all that's happened from the beginning, to the pattern of your flares, to your biggest concerns about your health. Then, they will ask you to hold your joints up to the camera, or take a photo and send in the app to your provider.
Second, your integrative rheum will check how well you can move all your joints, standing up and facing the screen. You'll also talk about your whole health, all of your symptoms and concerns, and any questions.
Third, they may ask you to press on your joints - do they feel spongy or filled with liquid? Often, your own assessment is very helpful and can provide extra feedback about how you feel when you are touching your own joints.
Fourth, after your visit, you will likely have orders for x-rays or imaging, to fully visualize your bones and joints to confirm the virtual exam findings - same as an in-person exam.
Fifth, your integrative rheumatologist will prescribe or renew your medicatons, supplements, and advise on other treatments to help you feel better, move better, and help your daily functioning. Then, you'll follow-up in 4 weeks.
